Killin time in the desert

Last week in the States

Just been going through the process of getting ready to move to the other side of the world for the next 7 months. Sounds like something that would keep you pretty busy for the work day here in North Carolina but mostly it consists of sitting in your room watching movie after movie and playing online poker. The higher-ups have checked and rechecked our gear countless times making sure we have everything on the gear list. The real work comes when they release us for the day and I go home to a pregnant wife and 9mo old son! BJ is probably ready for me to get outa the house so she will only have to take care of 1 kid instead of 2.

I don’t know how to feel about this upcoming deployment. Of course, the main part of me doesn’t want to miss yet another birth and be away from my wife and son for so long. Even after leaving for 3 months of boot, 2 months of Infantry school, 1 month in Yuma and 1 month in the Mojave Desert in Cali, saying goodbye never gets any easier.  Then the other part of me is the part that knows this is what I signed up for. Everyone wants that Combat Action Ribbion on their dress blues when it comes time for the Marine Corps Ball. From what we have heard from the fighting going on down there, we won’t have to worry about coming home without one. Hopefully we will have enough down time over there for me to keep up with this blog and keep everyone back home updated.

Where to start?

I’m giving in, even my own dad started blogging before I did. Family and friends can use this to keep up with my progress on my 7 month vacation coming up. I’ll tinker more with this later and get it up and running.
